Retsini

Retsini is our homage to the traditional Greek wine style called Retsina – which is fermented with resin from the Aleppo pine tree. The 2022 edition is straight Muscat of Alexandria, and of course pine resin which we source from a small mountain village in Greece. The Zibibbo comes from 50-60 year old bush vines grown on the striking red sandy soils over limestone of the Riverland. Traditionally it is white wine that is used in the production of Retsina, however we’ve adapted this to our house style and used an orange wine and gone a bit lighter on the resin, giving the phenolic fruitfulness of the wine a saline freshness. This is the taste of Greece – it’s the sun, the beach and the mountains, the oregano and thyme in the air and the freshness of the sea. As with all our wines, this wine is made from grapes only with no additives whatsoever. It is carefully made by hand with no big machinery and laboriously fussed over so the result is high quality and stable, eschewing the need for added sulphites.
