View winery‘Boutique Handcrafted Victorian Single Vineyard Wines’ “Petronio, our family name translates as “from a rocky place”. From ancient rocks and soil wines are grown. There is no more romantic image than that of something beautiful, refined and elegant growing from the hard and sometimes unforgiving earth. Our wines encapsulate this beauty, elegance and a sense of place.” Petronio Wines was established in 2005 and produces single vineyard wines that are expressive of site and reflective of vintage. Grapes are sourced from premium growing regions including the Yarra Valley, King Valley, Pyrenees, Strathbogie Ranges and Nagambie Lakes. Petronio Wines works closely with its growers and is critical for ensuring the best results are obtained in terms of fruit quality, with low yields and careful harvesting. Wines are treated with the attention and care they deserve and parcels are kept separate for as long as possible. Our aim is to create new world wines using traditional wine making techniques. Each wine is an expression of the ‘terroir’ it is grown from. Max Petronio (Head Winemaker) combines a deep understanding of the Yarra Valley and its key varieties with a passion for working with Mediterranean grape varieties from the homeland of his family. About the Winemaker Max Petronio began his wine career in 1996 as a casual in the cellar door of Yarra Ridge Wines in the Yarra Valley. From there he started work as a cellar hand whilst completing his winemaking studies at Charles Sturt University. In 2002 Max began his now 20+ year partnership with Yering Farm Wines of the Yarra Valley, as a cellar hand and then onto assistant winemaker. In 2004 Max started making his own wine in small volumes from the Yering Farm vineyards. Over the years Max has increased production and has sourced premium grapes from other Victorian grape growing locations including; The King Valley, Nagambie Lakes, Strathbogie Ranges and the Pyrenees. Max’s philosophy of winemaking is to make wines in the ‘old world handcrafted style’ with minimal intervention where possible. Instead, the wines are simply guided through the production process with the respect of mother-nature’s gift. The wines are handcrafted, well balanced with good cellaring potential. All wines produced by Petronio are vegan friendly.
